Museum Goldener Engel
The former “Hotel Goldener Engel“ is a building of special, local character in the center of Baumholder. It stands opposite the “Altes Rathaus” (= old town hall) and next to Place the Warcq.
The hotel, with its ground floor restaurant and hall, has been closely connected with the history of Baumholder and the training area for nearly a century.
As the hotel was unused for many years, the town of Baumholder acquired it in 2007 in order to save it from totally dilapidation. The city council decided to convert the building into a regional museum with a room for smaller events and the public library. The future museum will focus on the development of the military training area and the influence of the Americans military populace on the town. In 2009, an architectural competition for the preliminary redesign of the building was carried out. The engineering office Hille from Ingelheim won the competition and has received a commission from the city council for further design.
